Zachary, Dee, Sam, Joey, Avery in Yosemite 2006
My first memory of Sam is 1949 when I was a 10 year old in pigtails, living in Sand Hollow – on the Eastern Oregon/Idaho border. I was born in Bulley Creek and that’s where Sam started school, but I have no memory of him at that time.
Our families had gotten together to send my cousin Tosh to serve in the army. After the eating, the young folk decided to go to Caldwell, ID, to see the movie “How Superman Came To Earth”. My cousin Mary and I were passengers in the car as Sam drove. Half way to Caldwell, the hood of the car flew up and Sam remembers, “I had to look through the crack where the hood attached and pull over to the shoulder.”
Little did we know then that one day Sam & I would marry in 1961. The romance started when Sam first set me up to go on a date with a friend, Frankie, who never made it to Seattle, so Sam took me out instead. We went to see the Ice Follies.
Through the years Sam and I have made it our mission to: Bring out the best in each other. We have collaborated on raising a family, developing a health and nutrition business and more recently on writing and illustrating.
