About Japanese Cultural & Community Center

In 1989 I helped start the Japanese Heritage Historical Society. Several of us had previously been on a project called the Min Masuda Archival Project with the University of Washington Library Archives. The core group was Hana Masuda, Harry Fujita, Yoshito Fujii, Tets Kashima, Karyl Winn and myself.

One day, Hana Masuda and I made a pact that we would work on something related to the Japanese community the rest of our lives. That carried us on to thinking about a Japanese Heritage cultural center in Seattle. Subsequently, I made an appointment with Tomio Moriguchi of Uwajimaya to ask for his advice. He suggest I go and talk with Chuck Kato who was trying to get something going at the Japanese Language School.
