Kirin Waiting Game

Kelly & I went for an extra long walk last evening along the beach while Skip skateboarded around us, hoping the walk would stimulate Kirin to get uncomfortable enough to leave her comfortable womb. Kelly said her leg must have a pinched nerve or something and limped along, but she was determined to keep going as she had enough waiting and besides, Skip got the crib up so everything is ready.

Kelly was having regular contractions 20 minutes apart when we went to bed at 1:00am. When I got up around 5am she said they were getting close to 5 minutes apart so Skip and Kelly left for Sequoia Hospital about 6am in Skip’s Jetta. I stayed home in case they forgot something and wanted me to bring with.

I’m sitting here at home on Miramar Drive thinking about watching some news on the TV, but I’m not sure which of the 5 remote things to use. I turned on the TV, but so far all I can get is the “Muppets from Space”. Maybe I’ll call Grandpa Sam to let him know that something is happening.

Well, it’s 7:30a and Lynette called Sam & Sam called me and I finally got through to Kelly. Although her contractions are about 2 minutes apart, she’s afraid they will send her home because her cervix  hasn’t dilated and all the hospital rooms are full with other pregnant ladies.  Lynette called again from San Clarita where Joey is having a swim meet.  He didn’t make it into the finals but got into the top 16 consolation round of the Junior Olympics with a 10th place. Go Joey, that’s great!!  He still has his breast stroke tomorrow, his strong suit.

It’s 10a and I didn’t know what to do so I’m back from a walk on the beach. It’s pleasant, but overcast and about 60 degrees. All the 100,000 birds on the beach night before last are gone. Wonder what that was all about to have such a mass gathering of birds and then to be totally gone?

I think I will go grocery shopping and have a fish taco for lunch. Kelly just called and wants some easy to digest snacks because she is running out of energy and wants some healthy food. The problem is that Kelly is not making dilation progress and the hard contractions don’t seem worth it.  Kirin will be here soon, but it’s another waiting game by the hours instead of days. Amazing that pregnant mothers and family go through all of this all over the world.
